A letter from Doug Shada, President of the Berean Fellowship of Churches:

Subject: "Up, Up & Away"

Dear Friends,

This Saturday, around noon, I and several other men and women from our area will be boarding a plane and flying east to Niarobi, Kenya. We hope to arrive safely at 12 PM our time on Sunday or 7 PM their time. I am pretty excited about this trip as we will be working with Possibilities Africa and asking how we from the USA can partner with them in impacting their villages (literally hundreds of thousands of people) with total cultural change? To say that really challenges me is a huge understatement, friends.

Some ask, "Why would you fly halfway around the world to do something that needs to be done here in our area?" That is a great question to ponder. I have found as I study scripture that Christ traveled from His Throne in Heaven to save a wretch like you and me. That's a pretty long journey. I also see in scripture that we are commanded to "Go into all the World and make disiples," "To be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the remotest part of the earth." (Matt. 28:19,20; Acts 1:8)

But let me give you the compelling reason to do a trip like this: the Apostle Paul said, "The Love of Christ compels me." (2 Cor. 5:14) Christ's love, that saving, keeping, forgiving, delivering and hope-filled love needs to be spread both here and all around the world. Why should I/We keep it in, friends? I love the old song where it starts, "He saved me." He did, and I want to make sure I tell all who will hear, young and old alike, rich and poor, all races, and colors, about that great and magnificent love that frees us from sin and death, the love of Christ.

What an honor and privilege we have, whether it is here at home or to go, "Up, Up & Away" to a far away land to bring Him the glory and honor He deserves by sharing the greatest and only saving news given unto man, the Gospel of Christ!

Have a great day, friends, it is a privilege serving Christ in our day and age!

Your friend,

Pastor Doug
